    Austin Tartan Clan History

    For centuries the clan's fortunes were inextricably linked with those of clan Keith, who held lands in Caithness and East Lothian. Hereditary Earls Marischal of Scotland, the Keiths and their kinsfolk such as the Austins laid down their lives in the cause of their nation's freedom, with Sir Robert Keith commanding a force of 500 horsemen at the battle of Bannockburn in 1314.

    The Austins were supporters of the Keiths and so close would their association appear to be that both wear the same tartan which, in some early tartan collec
